Allen was FOR the ethanol mandate, before he was against it
If you were like most Americans over the holidays, you enjoyed delicious food around a table with friends and extended family, recounting many things for which you are thankful and joyous. I hope you were one of those people. I know I was.
Whether you know it or not, though, George Allen made your holiday meals more expensive. Sound like a stretch? It’s not. Here’s why…
As a member of the Senate, George Allen went along with the ethanol lobbyists, and voted to require corn-based ethanol additives in gasoline, which has driven up the price of corn, gasoline and everything from beef to turkey in grocery stores.
Sound harmless? Read on, you’ll see otherwise.
- The largest portion of the cost of the turkey you eat these days is due to the skyrocketing price of the corn turkeys eat over their little lifetimes. In fact, the price of turkey has risen by half in just the last couple of years.
- At some point, you (or someone you love) purchased some corn at the grocery store, so family members could enjoy eating corn, corn pudding and cornbread!
- If you enjoyed your holiday meals some place other than your own home, you probably didn’t realize you purchased corn at the gas pump, since good ole’ George voted to have the federal government require corn-based ethanol to be put into our gas.
Get the picture?
George Allen supported using your tax dollars to subsidize agri-business special interests, leaving us to foot the bill for higher costs resulting from government deciding to “help” the economy.
We get sucker punched three different ways:
- We pay federal taxes, which subsidize the ethanol program Allen supported.
- We buy gas for our cars, which is more expensive because of the ethanol mandate Allen supported.
- We purchase meat, which is more expensive because animals eat corn, which is more expensive because of Allen’s ethanol vote.
Who are the turkeys now? WE are, because we helped send Allen to Washington to start with!
Now that George Allen wants to go back to Washington, he’s mindful voters don’t want to pay more to visit grandma, eat corn pudding and shop for Christmas presents. Recently, the Washington Post said:
In 2005, Allen voted in favor of a mandate to increase the use of ethanol in fuels. The switch was widely noted in both the Virginia and Iowa media…
…Allen bragged about his position on ethanol during a visit to Iowa in March 2006.
…Now that Allen is gunning for his old seat, and trying to win over conservatives in a crowded GOP primary campaign, he says he is opposed to ethanol again.
The Richmond Times Dispatch went even further. When Allen claimed he no longer supported ethanol subsidies recently, the newspaper’s “Politifact” feature called his posturing a FULL FLOP.
Excessive and unnecessary spending is hurting our economy. Crony capitalism ultimately costs you and me in higher prices. But the deadly mixture of both is destroying this country. If we want to stop this destruction,we can’t continue politics as usual with George Allen. We need to send a constitutional conservative to the Senate who will work to fight politics as usual in Washington, DC.
That’s why I’m asking you to stand with me as I work to secure the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in 2012. I need to raise $94,000 more by December 31st to put our campaign on a solid footing for the New Year.
With 5,000,000 voters in the Commonwealth, we will need hundreds of thousands of dollars to get the word out on television, radio and in the mailboxes of the voters.
Will you stand with me, today? Help me reach our fundraising goals by giving your most generous gift right now.
Your gift of $2,500, $1,000, $500, $250, $100, or even $35 will send a message to the Washington Establishment – Virginia’s Constitutional conservative grassroots are fed up with crony capitalism, and demand real change in Washington.
Thank you, in advance, for standing with me and against the Establishment politicians.
