Jamie Radtke urges Congress to Pass the “No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act”

Jamie Radtke, candidate for the U.S. Senate from Virginia, today urged Virginia’s members of the House of Representatives to support H.R. 3, the “No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act,” which will be introduced on the floor of the House on Wednesday, May 4.

“A significant percentage of Virginians believe that each abortion ends a human life,” Radtke said. “When the federal government uses our taxpayer money to fund abortions, it makes us all accessories to abortions. It is simply wrong to put pro-life citizens in the position of paying for a procedure that ends human life.”

The No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act (introduced by Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Dan Lipinski (D-IL)) will establish a permanent, government-wide prohibition on taxpayer funding for elective abortion and insurance coverage that includes elective abortion. H.R. 3 also eliminates needing to pass appropriations riders (such as the Hyde Amendment which must be renewed annually), protects against fluid regulations (which can be overturned by new administrations), and executive orders (which exist at the will of a president).

H.R .3 also codifies the Hyde-Weldon amendment, protecting health care providers, health care institutions, and health insurance providers against discrimination by the government on the basis that they do not provide, pay for, provide coverage of, or refer for abortions.

“The representatives of the people must stand up for the rights of pro-life Virginians to not be accessories to the ending of human life,” Radtke said. “The ‘No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act’ is a law that is consistent with limited government because it prevents the federal government from forcing pro-life Virginians to take part in activities that are abhorrent to them.”
