  • Radtke Calls for Congressional Investigation Into IRS Abuse of Tea Party, Patriot Groups

RICHMOND - U.S. Senate candidate Jamie Radtke has asked the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to launch a formal investigation into abusive actions by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) toward Tea Party and Patriot organizations. On Friday, Radtke sent a letter to Congressman Darrell Issa describing IRS actions toward conservative organizations currently seeking IRS non-profit status as “an assault by the Internal Revenue Service on Tea Party and Patriot groups.” As an example, Radtke mentioned the plight of Richmond Tea Party, which applied for 501(c)(4) non-profit status more than two years ago. After waiting two and a half years for approval, the IRS recently communicated a new set of overly-burdensome and invasive demands for information that exceed the scope of the IRS code.

  • MWAA Must Be Made Accountable

Legislation has been introduced in the General Assembly session to add two Virginia representatives to the governing body of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, and one representative each for the District of Columbia and Maryland. This will not cure the fundamental problem with MWAA’s structure — its lack of accountability. MWAA is independent of federal, [...]

  • We must protect our civil liberties

The recently-enacted National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) establishes unconstitutional authority to indefinitely detain American citizens suspected of supporting terrorism and denies them the right to due process or trial. Worse, it allows the U.S. government to detain Americans as long as we are at war with terrorists, and this is a war with no end in sight. As conservativs, we need to be defending the liberties that are guaranteed to Americans by the Constitution. I support Senator Mike Lee’s bill to protect American civil liberties, the “Due Process Guarantee Act of 2011,” which makes clear that a declaration of war or authorization for the use of military force by Congress does not authorize the indefinite detention of American citizens or legal residents who are apprehended in the United States.

  • SOPA: More Government Intrusion, Less Freedom, and an End to the Internet?

It’s dumb to use a sledgehammer to kill a mosquito, but it’s criminal if the mosquito is sitting on someone’s head at the time. The Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, is criminal in the same way. Through SOPA, the U.S. government and private companies will be able to censor free speech by killing web sites [...]

  • George Allen, Corn Pudding, Turkeys and Gasoline

If you were like most Americans over the holidays, you enjoyed delicious food around a table with friends and extended family, recounting many things for which you are thankful and joyous. I hope you were one of those people. I know I was. Whether you know it or not, though, George Allen made your holiday meals more expensive. Sound like a stretch? It’s not. Here’s why [...]
